FAQ about Chemical Free Lawn Care

We offer a wide range of services that allow you to maintain a beautiful, healthy landscape without the use of harmful chemicals or pesticides. To get started a representative of our company will come to your property and evaluate soil conditions, insect infestations, plant health and specific plant needs, as well as measure all lawn and garden areas for square footage so that proper amounts of organic matter or needed materials can be applied to your soils.

A detailed finding of your landscape needs and recommendations will be sent to you to help you determine what services are needed and which of these services you may decide to do yourself.

If you choose our Chemical Free Lawn Care service, once established, your soil will require minimal replenishment of organic materials. As time goes by and we see improvement in plant growth, foliage color, looser soil and worm activity, your basic program will be modified for ongoing maintenance.

Treatment of Problems

We can help you identify and treat a number of problem areas. We offer the following solutions:

Un-Healthy Trees

If trees seem to be in stressful situations we recommend applications of Mycor to increase root hyphae, Air Spading to uncover the tree's root flare: "Most Trees are Planted Too Deep in the Ground" by Howard Garrett , and/or Howard Garrett's "Sick Tree Treatment."

Fungicide Application

Brown Patch, Black Spot and other visible fungal problems areas will be identified and treatment will be detailed. Our preferred method to control fungal problems on plants is by using Potassium Bicarbonate or Serenade. On lawns we can use Serenade, horticultural corn meal, peat moss, but long term control of chronic problems will require aeration and/or top dressing with compost on a once or twice a year bases, and even re-contouring of the yard for better drainage.

Organic Pest Control

We will determine the best methods for controlling the bad guys that are in your landscape. We have organic applications for controlling fire ants, roaches, grub worms, web worms, chinch bugs, fleas, chiggers, caterpillars, grasshoppers, snails and slugs, white flies, mosquitoes, spider mites, pillbugs and aphids. Organic Weed Control

Weeds are a common problem for many of our beginning customers. Through the use of vinegar, citrus oil, herbicidal fatty acid soaps, corn gluten meal, and regular aeration and top dressing with compost, we can get a hold of these pesky plants. Also through the continued use of our organic methods, weeds will decrease and not be a problem any more!

Improvement of Soil Health

Organic horticulture revolves around enriching the life in the soil. Improving the soil improves the soil life, and these organisms take care of the plants. Organic nutrients like compost and fertilizers are not used by plants directly. The soil life must break it down into products plants can use in a complex process called soil mineralization. The soil life supplies plants with nitrogen, minerals, antibiotics, protection from disease and pest, and improves the structure and chemistry of the soil to allow for healther plants. Plants then help the soil life by suppling sugars from photosynthesis and more compost from leaf and grass litter and dead plants. Using organic, all-natural products and techniques, we can improve the condition of your soil, improve the soil life, and create healthier and hardier plant life.

Microbial Application

By releasing additional microbes into the soil and feeding them compost, we can rapidly improve the physical and chemical soil conditions. Decrease compaction and improve percolation or drainage to allow oxygen deep into the soil for easier root growth. Adjust the pH to more neutral levels to help release nutrients locked up together by strong chemical bonds. In most instances mechanical aeration becomes unnecessary. Another reason for applying Microbes is to improve the health of the soil by increasing microbial activity, which breaks down organic matter into humus, then humic acid, and then basic elements. This is a process known as mineralization and helps create a balance of physics, chemistry, and biology necessary to all life. One tablespoon of healthy soil contains 50 billion microbes.

We use a mechanical core aerator for the best aeration method possible. This reduces soil compaction, improves drainage and increases microbial activity in the soil.

Lawn and Landscape Fertilization

We will fertilize your entire landscape using all-natural products that are specially made for your situation. Our evaluation will have identified needs specific to your landscape and we will fulfill those needs with the appropriate fertilization program. We use our specially formulated line of organic Green Sense Products that have become the preferred choice for thousands of homeowners and companies who want all natural products for their lawns and gardens. Our fetilizers will build up organic matter in your soil while increasing the population of microbes and beneficial insects, therefore decreasing your need for the application of pesticides, herbicides and other toxic chemicals. Green Sense All Purpose Lawn and Garden Fertilizers will be applied a minimum of three times per year at a rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. If results suggest there is not a need for a microbial application, then a fourth application of Green Sense All Purpose Fertilizers will be applied.

Beneficial Nematode Application

We can apply an easy to spray form of beneficial nematodes for you and in a larger package for greater coverage. It is the same species of nematodes that we sell in the store, but comes with a much shorter shelf life. This means a quick application, higher concentrations of active units, and quicker results, but we need to order them when needed. Our normal nematodes are shipped in a vermiculite medium with enough food to allow them to keep 6 months to a year in a refrigerator. This insures that you will have live nematodes when you find you need them to work devouring harmful pests. For more information on nematodes and their benefits, click here.

Foliar Feeding

Trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and even lawn grass, will benefit greatly from a monthly foliar feeding. Green Sense Foliar Juice contains Seaweed/Kelp (Ascophylum nodosum), Fish Solubles, plant based Compost Tea, Blackstrap Molasses, and Magnesium Sulfate or Epson Salt for an additional boost. Foliar feeding is ideal for new landscapes.
